Kaufman, Eileen

Eileen Kaufman is a Professor of Psychology and chair of the Psychology/Sociology Department. As one of the most senior faculty members, she has been witness to many changes at the college, including tremendous growth and expansion.  She finds the increasingly diverse student population challenging and exciting and enjoys working with the faculty, administration and students to meet the ever –changing needs created by the changes. Prof. Kaufman developed the AA Program in Psychology, which has proven to be a popular major. Throughout her career at Union County College she has served on and chaired many committees. She was one of the creators of the Overcoming Hatred/Creating Community Committee and served as its co-chair for many years.  She found this one of the most enjoyable of her committee experiences. Last year she served as chair of the Departmental Coordination Committee and will continue for the current academic year. Prof. Kaufman received a Master’s from Columbia University and a Certificate in Psychoanalysis from the Alfred Adler Institute. She is a licensed Psychoanalyst in New York State. With both academic and practical perspectives, she tries to have her students master the material and also think about how it applies to their lives and to society.
