Mitra, Sophia

 
English Assistant Professor Sophia Mitra has a passion for teaching Developmental Reading and Writing as well as other English courses. Her students praise her for the confidence she engenders in them. She says, "I always assure my students that if I can master a language being a non-native speaker, so can they." Before joining Union, she taught at Middlesex County College, Raritan Valley Community College and Rutgers University. She co-chairs the College Novel Committee and serves as an advisor for the Asian Students Association. She has a master’s degree in Education from the University of New Haven and a master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Calcutta, India.
