Union County College's Student Art Competition
The public is invited to view the winning works from the “Union County College 2014 Student Art Competition.” This year, the exhibit can be seen in a virtual gallery located on the College’s website which can be viewed by clicking here. The evening of the reception, the student winners will be available to discuss their artwork and how they developed the pieces. The annual Student Art Competition is sponsored by the Union County College Art Society, a Student Government supported extracurricular organization, and the English/Fine Arts/Modern Languages Department. Union County College Senior Professor and Department Coordinator Anthony Nicoli, along with Senior Professors George Hildrew and Robert Yoskowitz, serve as the club’s advisors.
At the end of each academic year, students at the College are invited to submit art works that they created throughout the year to be judged by a trained outside art professional. Subsequent to judge review, prizes for creative excellence are awarded in the following categories: Best Work Submitted and First, Second, Third, Fourth and Honorable Mention in the categories of painting, drawing, illustration/design, and photography.
This year the art competition was juried by Ms Dawn Delicat, who is the Associate Director of the Pen and Brush, Inc., an international arts organization located in New York City since 1894. The judging of the event was held on Friday, April 4, 2014.
The students participating in the show are: from Elizabeth – Jeanatte Colombani, Joshua Franco, Diana Jordan, Krystle Lemonias, Curran Murphy, Pedro Pauta, Cristhian Porras, and Kamaleidien Shaoban; from Garwood – Dori Miller; from Plainfield – Rushelle Marylis Peterkin; from Scotch Plains – Claire Muirhead; from Union – Eliana Goncalves; from Westfield – Bong Soo Kim; from Maplewood – Briana Walters; and from Newark – Osvaldo Ramirez. The College’s Cranford campus is located at 1033 Springfield Avenue.
