Union County College offering Successful Business Training Courses

Union County College is offering the following business training courses.

The essential ingredient to a successful business is a customer-focused attitude. IBI’s 12-hour customer service training program teaches the principles of effective internal and external customer service and builds skills in listening, probing and questioning, dealing with difficult customers, resolving conflict and diffusing tempers.

The class can be brought to the company's premises, on their schedule, for classes of ten or more employees at no charge if a business or non-profit enterprise (non-government). The NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOLWD) funds this program through the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA).
 IBI find ways to make these services available to small and intermediate sized businesses by working with chambers of commerce, industry associations and neighborhood business groups. Please call one of the numbers below to learn how your company can participate.

The grant also includes training courses in Written Communications, Verbal Communications, Spanish for the Workplace, English as a Second Language, Basic Math and Measurement and MS Office Suite applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Windows). The Industry-Business Institute at Union County College is a training provider for the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development and has provided high quality employee and management training programs for the largest employers in Union County for decades.

Employees in transportation, logistics and distribution may attend an industry-specific training program, Introduction to Logistics, at Union County College, free of charge, through a grant from the New Jersey Business and Industry Association.

This is a 48-hour comprehensive learning experience. This program is valuable to anyone employed in industry that requires increased knowledge of worldwide logistics. Employees in customer service, purchasing, warehousing, logistics, transportation and other multi-functioning departments in manufacturing or distribution are welcome.
 The class will be held two evenings per week Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Kellogg Building at 40 W. Jersey St., Elizabeth, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Employers are encouraged to offer these classes to their employees as opportunities for professional development. Content includes world geography, industry-specific documentation such as airway bills, export forms and commercial invoices as well as MRP and TMS software.

Training in communication skills, customer service, team building and logistics vocabulary is also included. Seating is limited to 16. Registration is required.

Former students of the program said, “The topics were informative and relevant, with a lot of real life applications,” and “As we work in a support industry to a small section of the logistics chain, seeing the bigger picture is important. We now feel we are more knowledgeable business partners to our clients.”

While not specifically directed at preparation for certification, or for taking exams, this course covers some knowledge required for some standard industry examinations.
