Read President McMenamin's Speech to the Class of 2012

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

It is now my pleasure to present the President’s charge to the graduates.

Underneath my photo in my high school yearbook are four words:

Shoot for the Stars.

As I prepared for this ceremony, I thought about my college graduation and about how each one of you, like me, once had a dream that this day—your college graduation day—would come.

Well—your dream—like mine—came true.

Congratulations Graduates—you have earned a College Degree!

That single achievement will open doors for you in the future.

That single achievement will change the course of your life forever.

That single achievement will distinguish you from the thousands of individuals who started on this path but gave up before they finished.

That single achievement—earning your college degree—will destine you for better jobs, higher incomes, and greater opportunities.

How did you do it?  How did you make this dream come true?

Hard work.

Dedication.

The unconditional support of your friends and family.

And the assistance from the Master Teachers who are the Union County College Faculty!

Congratulations Graduates for earning something that no one can ever take away from you—

—your College Degree.

We are proud to say that you are, and will always be, Graduates of Union County College.

Congratulations!
