Union County College’s Engineering Society teamed up with the Radical Rocketeers Rocketing Club and launched their first rocket on Sat., April 18, 2015. The Radical Rocketeers are located in Great Meadows, NJ and is a chapter of the National Association of Rocketry. This was a first test for the College’s Engineering Society, which is preparing to enter the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space 2015 University Rocketry Challenge. The society will compete in the challenge in September 2015.
The first test was a rocket named “BLT.” BLT was approximately 9 feet tall and weighed 4 pounds. It had a total of eight motors on it, each with 50 Newton/s of impulse. The rocket reached approximately 1500 feet. The Engineering Society will continue to work with the NAR to find FAA acceptable launch sites, as the rockets being designed by Union’s students violates the air space throughout Union County.
