Union County College Adds Two Full-Time Faculty Members This Fall
CRANFORD – With the start of the fall semester on September 3, 2014, Union County College welcomed two new full-time faculty members to the College for the 2014-2015 academic year. Patricia Green-Douglass joins the Business Department and Roberto Garcia joins the English/Fine Arts/Modern Languages Department and will be teaching English courses.
Patricia Green-Douglass brings to Union years of working as an educational counselor and as a computer science tutor. From these two positions, she has vast experience in working with those who need learning assistance. She has experience in helping those with English as a Second Language issues and provided tutoring and assistance to those learning Microsoft Office Suite.
Ms. Green-Douglass holds two master’s degrees. One is an M.B.A. in general management from La Sierra University, with an emphasis in law and policy. Her second degree is a Master in Education in Instructional Technology, from East Stroudsburg University – which prepared her well for the College’s use of online course elements as a part of each course offered at Union. Her technical skills include computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite; Database programs such as Oracle (Banner), MySQL, PowerSchool; experience with social media and internet research; learning management systems such as Desire2Learn (D2L), Moodle, Blackboard, and Canvas; and experience with Adobe, such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Captivate, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premier.
Roberto Garcia comes to Union having served as an Adjunct Instructor in English composition and language studies at Essex County College. In addition to his years of teaching at Essex, he served as the Associate Director of the Caspersen School of Graduate Admissions at Drew University. With his experience in both the role of instructor and in administration, Mr. Garcia understands the needs and demands of students today.
Mr. Garcia is also well published. He has reviewed poems and chapbooks. He has participated in author readings in New York City and a poetry series at the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ. He also participated in panel discussions on contemporary literature and on the poem “Or” by Thomas Sayers Ellis.
Mr. Garcia holds multiple degrees. He has a Master of Fine Arts-Poetry and Poetry Translation from Drew University. His Bachelor of Arts is in English from Kean University. Mr. Garcia began his educational career at Union County College where he earned his Associate of Science in liberal studies.
