Get started in the multi-billion dollar app industry by creating your own apps through a new app developer program offered through Continuing Education. The App Developer certificate program will teach you to develop apps for both Android and Apple devices and no prior programming experience is required.
These are all non-credit classes and the first class, Android Developer, teaches you to create apps for Android-powered smartphones and tablets for publication in the Google Play Store. This class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 11 - July 18 (no class on 7/02 and 7/04) from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The class tuition is $275.
The next class in the program, Apple Mobile Developer, teaches app development for Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, and iPod. This class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 23 - August 22 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. The class tuition is $390 and students who want to publish their apps to the Apple Store will need to pay a $99 Apple Developer fee.
An additional class will be offered, which is optional, to teach how to create apps for Facebook. The Facebook App Developer class will meet Tuesday and Thursday on August 27 and August 29 from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. This class tuition is $65.
All classes will be taught on the Cranford campus by Beth Ritter-Guth, the Director of Instructional Design at Union County College. Professor Guth is an Apple Developer and has published apps for third party vendors in both the Apple and Android markets. She has been documented in the Chronicle of Higher Education, America Online, and USA Today for her experience using virtual and augmented reality to teach English at the college level. She has won several teaching awards including the "Teacher of the Future" by the National Association of Independent Schools and the "Educator of Distinction" award by the High School Scholars Association.
