Can You Escape? Test Your Skills at Union County College’s Escape Room Events
During March, Union County College will be hosting multiple Escape Room events to provide a fun night out for family and friends and a chance to solve exciting puzzles together and to “unlock” the room and escape. Each round is 15 minutes long and a team of up to six people can participate. All funds raised during these events will be used toward scholarships for Union students. The scholarships are issued through the Union County College Foundation.
The following events will all be held in Rooms H108 and H110, in the Humanities Building, at the College’s Cranford campus, located at 1033 Springfield Avenue. Each team can have up to six people but a team of six is not required to participate.
Team Phi Theta Kappa will host The Unlockable Adventure on March 17 and 18 from 7-10 p.m. and on March 19 from 2-6 p.m. Team American Honors will host Mystery Madness on March 24 and 25 from 7-10 p.m. and on March 26 from 2-6 p.m. Team Criminal Justice will host Crime and Punishment on March 31 and April 1 from 7-10 p.m. and on April 2 from 2-6 p.m.
The admission fee to participate is $5 with student ID, for seniors, and for veterans. The fee for adults is $10. All tickets can be purchased at the door. For questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Complete the Facility Management Credential Program at Union County College
Union County College will be offering a Facility Management Professional (FMP®)
Credential Program by the International Facility Management Association beginning this month.
If you are an early to mid-career facility management practitioner, currently transitioning into the profession, or are practitioner in a related industry such as an architect, designer or safety engineer, this program will help you improve your knowledge, enhance your skills, and gain immediate credibility with employers, clients, and peers.
The topics covered in this 15 week, 60 hour course include Operations and Maintenance, Project Management, Finance and Business, and Leadership and Strategy. The course will be offered on Tuesday evenings from March 7 to June 27 and will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the College’s Cranford campus. The cost of the course is $2,395 which includes all course materials and online assessments. To earn the FMP® credential, students must pass each of the four FMP® final assessments with a score of 75% or higher. Each student must also submit an FMP application and pay an application fee (information at (www.ifma.org
) to IFMA to validate your credential.

Union County College Hires New Dean
Dr. Bernard A. Polnariev joins Union County College’s administration as the new Dean of Curriculum, Accreditation, and American Honors. Dr. Polnariev brings more than 18 years of experience in higher education to Union, having previously served as an academic administrator, researcher, and an adjunct instructor.
As the Dean of Curriculum, Accreditation, and American Honors, Dr. Polnariev will be responsible for coordinating articulation agreements with other institutions and coordinating educational initiatives and events. He will oversee the development of new courses and the production of the College’s academic catalog. As the Dean of American Honors, he will oversee all aspects of the program, from curriculum development to enrollment. He will ensure that a student-centered approach is taken towards all academic initiatives.
Prior to his arrival at Union, Dr. Polnariev served at LaGuardia Community College in Queens, NY, for almost five years as the Administrative Executive Officer for Academic Affairs. In this position, he coordinated and guided more than two dozen discipline-based faculty teams from nine departments to improve majors. He partnered with division liaisons to develop, manage, and present outcomes-focused strategic plans, goals, activities, and budgets. He served as the divisional liaison for all electronic student communications and he assisted faculty program directors from eight departments to overhaul their new Academic Affairs website.
Union County College President McMenamin Elected Vice Chair of Middle States Commission on Higher Education
Union County College President, Dr. Margaret M. McMenamin, was elected to serve as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), and began her term in January 2017. She has been serving as a commissioner with MSCHE since 2014. As Vice Chair she will provide policy leadership to the organization’s Executive Committee.
As a commissioner, Dr. McMenamin participates on a 27-member board that oversees accreditation and pre-accreditation activities for colleges and universities in New Jersey, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and other territories. Dr. McMenamin’s experience with MSCHE includes her having served as a site visitor and a team chair.
MSCHE elects commissioners from among its 526 member institutions. As an elected commissioner, Dr. McMenamin attends commission meetings and serves on task forces and committees. MSCHE is one of several regional accrediting commissions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Prepare to Work in Real Estate Sales at Union County College Tuesday, January 24, 2017
Union County College will be offering a course to prepare individuals to take the New Jersey sales/licensing exam to become a licensed real estate agent in New Jersey.
This 75-hour course meets the Real Estate Commission requirements for the N.J. Sales Licensing Exam. Topics include property interests, mortgages, deeds, title closing, liens, real estate law and ethics, agency relationships, and real estate calculations. The class will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from January 30 to April 26. It will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the College’s Scotch Plains campus. The cost of the course, with the textbook, is $495.
